Do Plumbers Install Washers and Dryers?

When you buy a new washer and dryer, the company selling the units will often install them upon delivery. They will typically take the old units away as well as part of the delivery and installation service. So, if you’re buying new units, you likely don’t need to worry about finding a local plumber to install them for you. However, if you’re buying used units or being gifted a washer and dryer set, you’ll need to find someone to install them for you. While there are plenty of DIY tutorials online showing you how to get them hooked up yourself, it is always a good idea to have a professional plumber get them installed for you. A licensed plumber will have the tools and expertise needed to fix any plumbing problems that arise due to old, poorly placed, or incorrectly sized water lines. Using a top-rated plumber also reduces the likelihood of having a water leak or other costly malfunction.

When installing a used washer, you can also ask your local plumber to look at it to see if there are any issues that should be addressed while he/she is already on site. This avoids the need to pay for a second trip charge if there is anything major that needs to be repaired. A plumber is equipped to fix a broken washing machine and will have the know how to get the job done quickly.

As a word of caution, if you are switching from an electric to a gas dryer or vice versa, you will need to use a licensed electrician to tap into a gas line or existing wiring to provide power to the unit. Do not assume that a plumber will be the only trade you will have to employ to get the job done.

Lastly, as you're going to have a plumber come out to install your washer, you might as well group together any additional plumbing projects you've been thinking of tackling. This will reduce the expense of having to pay to have someone come out again to do other home plumbing work.
