What does it Cost to Clean my Main Drain Line?

The cost of a sewer line cleaning can vary significantly based on which method is used to clean it and what your plumber finds during the cleaning.

Snaking or rodding a sewer line is often a less expensive solution for cleaning a main line, while the cost of hydro jetting tends to run higher. The reason these services are priced differently to accomplish the same thing are because the equipment is different and the expertise needed to operate the equipment is different. And while hydro jetting may be more expensive than regular roto rooting-type services, it is typically far more effective – leaving the main line cleaner than if it was just snaked out. As a result, hydro jetting service is typically $400-900 for more basic jobs (with more complicated work or substantial clogging can easily cost over $1,000), while sewer rodding may only be $250-500. Keep in mind, however, that depending on your specific plumbing circumstances, rodding may not be a viable option.

If your local plumber finds cracked or deteriorated pipes, they will likely need to be dug up and replaced. This is not an uncommon scenario for older homes where roots have penetrated sewer lines. The average cost of this kind of sewer line repair work is $2,500 with projects running well above that if longer sections of pipe need to be excavated and replaced.
